Candace Gordon ~ 2012 Citizen of the Year

Congratulations to Candace Gordon, who was named Maple Ridge’s Citizen of the Year for 2012 at the Maple Ridge Community Foundation dinner in April.

More than 170 people were in attendance at Meadows Gardens Golf Club on April 12 to help recognize Candace’s lengthy record of public service to the community. They were also there to raise funds for the Community Foundation, and did so to the tune of about $11,000.

A delicious buffet dinner (Meadows Gardens outdid itself on this score), beautiful music from Simon Jarrett and friends, plus Natasha Zimbaro and Peter Tam, and plenty of opportunities to meet old friends and make new ones were appreciated by all.

All in all, a great dinner event that gave the community of Maple Ridge an opportunity to celebrate one of its own for her wonderful contributions to our great town.

There was also a grant presentation to Dennis Hemminger of the YFC Youth Unlimited for $1500 from the George Mussallem Youth Fund.  Dennis coordinates the feeding of hungry secondary school students at Westview and Garibaldi Secondary Schools.  Mr. Hemminger works with the Youth Workers in the schools and connects with students who are in need of nutrition.
